NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It tests the types of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. The tests cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. The assessments are undertaken every year in the second full week in May.

NAPLAN Exemptions

Dear Families,

Please find attached application forms for Exemption from NAPLAN testing 2020 and Withdrawal from NAPLAN testing 2020. NAPLAN testing will be held nationally from Tuesday 12th May to Friday 22nd of May. All students are encouraged to participate in the testing but may be exempted for particular reasons. These reasons are set out at the top of each form. Please read carefully and fill out the appropriate form if needed. Forms must be returned to me before the 31st March so that the Principal can approve and sign.

We will hold one NAPLAN practice test session next week on Monday or Tuesday which all year 7 and 9 students are expected to attend unless they are part of a small number of EAP students who will be contacted through their Homeform teacher. Please encourage your son or daughter to attempt all questions to practice their ICT skills and familiarise themselves with the platform. Questions are not marked or counted. Online testing is becoming increasingly common in schools, in senior years especially with SACE so it is valuable practise.

I have also attached a brochure with some general information about NAPLAN testing.

Kind regards,

Lorna Parker – Head of Middle Years
